EU-UK positions remain far apart

#Brexit After her meeting with the British PM Boris Johnson in Brussels, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen concisely stated that the positions in the negotiations on the future relationship "remain far apart" urging the negotiating teams to try to resolve the essential issues to make a decision by the end of the weekend.

On 10th and 11th December, EU leaders will meet for their 13th meeting of 2020. Although the EU-UK negotiations are not on the formal agenda they could dominate discussions. The European Council supports an agreement with free and fair competition at its core, a long-term, balanced solution on fisheries, and a robust mechanism to ensure that the rules are observed, i.e., a fair deal with the UK, but not at any cost.
